The Month of Money!
Today is December 1, and it is the official beginning of the holiday season!!! Everyone is struggling with today's economy, between being laid off from jobs or receiving cuts from their salary. Now that the Advent season is beginning, which marks the four weeks leading up to Christmas, many people are worrying about what they are going to buy for their friends and family. In reality, people should not only prepare for Christmas worrying about the gifts they are going to buy for others, but they should think about how they can prepare themselves for the birth of Jesus Christ. They should think about how Christmas is a time of not only giving gifts, but also of volunteering your time to help others who are less fortunate. What do you feel is a good way to prepare for the Christmas Season?

At the Christmas Cantata at my church, they had a skit about exactly this concept. You're absolutely right, people often get too caught up in "present" giving instead of "gift" giving and the commercialization of Christmas instead of the birth of Jesus.
ReplyDeleteI think just being friendly and getting in the spirit is a great way to prepare. Things like putting up christmas lights and decorations, going caroling, getting the christmas tree, watching t.v by the fire, seeing family you haven't seen in a while, are all great ti==hings that happen around the holidays and make it special.
ReplyDeletei think just taking a step back and appreciating everything you have got rather than the things you dont is a really good way to prepare for the christmas season.
ReplyDeleteI think these are all great ways to prepare for the holiday season! It focuses more on the joy of the season, and less on the "material giving" of the season.
